On Sports Day 2024 in Manipur, cash awards were given to Olympian Medalist Saikhom Mirabai and folk Singer Benita Laishram. A Sum of Rs 25 Lakh to Mirabai and Rs 10 Lakhs to Benita Laishram was given by the Manipur state government on 29th August 2024. Saikhom Mirabai represented India in the Olympics 2024 held in Paris and Benita Laishram represented Manipur in the folk reality show "Bharat ka Amrit Kailash". For this achievement, the state government honored THEM for their hard work and dedication on Sports Day 2024. The National Sports Day 2024 is held every year on the 29th of August on the birthday of Major Dhyancahnd Singh (Hockey player) and in memory of him.
It is a motivation to all the youth in Manipur to do great in something they can.

The prize distribution ceremony on Sports Day 2024 was organized by the Department of Youths and Sports at the Koirengei Heeyai Adventure Club.
At the prize distribution ceremony, the CM of Manipur N Biren Singh said on media that Sports is all about playing with dedication and effort. He also spoke about the environmental issues of Manipur. Also mentioned that there is a plan for wind energy electric generation in Manipur in the coming days. Along with it he also mentioned supplying Water to farms via 68 solar pumping device installations.
In the recent 2024 Paris Olympics match mirabai could not retain the silver medal but won the bronze. Hou Zhihui from China won the gold medal in the events.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Saikhom Mirabai won the silver medal but in 2020 in the category of 49 kg. Another sportsperson from India to win silver in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was Karnam Malleswari

Saikhom Mirabai is an Indian International Weightlifter. She was born in Manipur in the year 1994 on August 9, at Nongpok Kakching, Imphal East, Manipur. About her achievements, Recently at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she won the fourth posting in weightlifting. She won the 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medal, and gold at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
She was honored with the Padma Shree and Major Dhyan and Khel Ratna Awards by the Govt of India in 2018. In the year 2022, she joined the I-League club NEROCA as a brand ambassador. Her coach's name is Vijay Sharma and Aaron Horschig.
